Rent's 10th Anniversary
The concert took place on April 24, 2006 at the Nederlander Theater and was followed by a grand celebration at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
Proceeds will benefit Friends in Deed (www.friendsindeed.org), the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation, and New York Theatre Workshop.
Rent opened at the Nederlander on April 29, 1996. The musical earned 10 Tony nominations and took home four. The film version, directed by Chris Columbus and starring most of the original cast is set to be released on November 11, 2005.
Rent is a new spin on the classic opera La Boheme. Set in New York City's East Village, it's an emotionally stirring story of a community of young artists struggling to live and celebrate life. A penniless songwriter, Roger, stricken with Aids has given up on life until he meets his beautiful neighbor, Mimi, who is also Aids stricken.
