FEAR! Don't let it stop you from living your best life!
First off, fear is natural. It is the body's way of letting you know that there is some kind of danger you might need to prepare for. Very often however, what we're afraid of isn't real and it doesn't mean the experience of fear is not real - it just means that we are all so skilled at frightening ourselves. When anyone is faced with a threat, they feel fear and it can really throw us for a loop. We can become so scared that we shut down, regress, and lose our ability to think and act clearly and in a way that is not good for us and those around us... So what can you do to help yourself when you are feeling afraid? Well, the first thing to do is to breathe. Take a deep breath in through your nose and count quietly to yourself, 1-2-3, and exhale through your mouth. Do this a few times and then return to a more natural breath. One of our biggest fears, along with public speaking, is that of rejection. What happens here is that we take the actions of another person personally and lose sight of the fact that another person's behavior may not be about you! Another exercise that you can do is take it to the extreme...sit down and really picture the worst case scenario. Give yourself permission to go there and figure out what is the worst thing that could happen and you will see that it in fact will be something you can probably handle pretty easily.
